Training · cloud cost

Teach your team to cut its cloud costs.

Three formats, from a half-day session to a two-day bootcamp, for engineers, tech leads, engineering managers and finance. In Paris or remote, built on your own bills when you want it to be.

01 · Formats

Three formats, priced per group.

Delivered in English or French. Each format draws on the modules below; the depth grows with the length.

Half a day

Awareness session

€1,500 for up to 15 people

Everyone shares one vocabulary: how the bill is built, where cloud spend usually hides, and which levers exist.

Prerequisites

None. Open to technical and non-technical roles.

The team leaves with
  • A shared model of how cloud billing works
  • A map of the main cost levers
  • A short list of questions to take back to the team
One day

Hands-on workshop

€3,500 for up to 10 people, preparation included

The team reads its own bills and leaves with a prioritized list of savings it can act on.

Prerequisites

Read access to a recent bill or cost export, and a few people who know the workloads behind it.

The team leaves with
  • Your bill read line by line, on your own data
  • A prioritized list of savings, with the first ones sized
  • A tagging and showback starting point
Two days

Practitioner bootcamp

€7,000 for up to 8 people, preparation included

Practitioners can run the cost practice: analysis, commitments, allocation and unit economics, with cost in every design review.

Prerequisites

Day-to-day work on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, and access to billing exports for exercises.

The team leaves with
  • Working queries on your billing export
  • A commitment approach you can defend
  • An allocation model (showback or chargeback) and unit-cost metrics
  • A design-review checklist that prices a design before it is built
  • Half a day€1,500 for up to 15 people
  • One day€3,500 for up to 10 people, preparation included
  • Two days€7,000 for up to 8 people, preparation included
  • Prices excl. VAT, per group. €150 per extra participant. Travel outside Paris charged at cost. Delivered in English or French.
02 · Audiences

Who it is for

Engineers

Read a bill, size a service, and know what a design choice costs before it ships.

Tech leads

Put cost next to latency and availability in design reviews, and own the unit cost of a service.

Engineering managers

Run a cost practice inside the team: tagging, showback, and a regular review that leads to action.

Finance and FinOps

Understand what the line items mean, what commitments really commit to, and which questions to put to engineering.

03 · Modules

Ten modules

Each format draws on these modules; the depth grows with the length. Cloud examples cover AWS, Azure and Google Cloud.

  1. 01

    How cloud billing works

Meters, rates, usage types and the invoice they produce; why the same service shows up under several line items.

    All formats
  2. 02

Reading the bill and its exports

The AWS Cost and Usage Report, Azure cost exports and the Google Cloud billing export: what each row is and how to query it.

    Workshop, bootcamp
  3. 03

    Rightsizing

Matching instance and service sizes to the load you measured, and what to check before changing anything.

    All formats
  4. 04

    Commitments

Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, Azure reservations and Google Cloud committed use discounts: how they work, what they lock in, and how to size them.

All formats, in depth in the bootcamp
  5. 05

    Storage lifecycle

Tiers, retention and lifecycle rules for object and block storage, and the retrieval costs that surprise teams.

    Workshop, bootcamp
  6. 06

    Data transfer

Where traffic is billed, why it is easy to miss, and which architectures avoid it.

    Workshop, bootcamp
  7. 07

    Tagging, showback and chargeback

Allocating spend to teams and products, and what to do with the share nobody owns.

All formats, in depth in the bootcamp
  8. 08

    Unit economics

Cost per customer, per request or per feature, so spend can be read against what the business gets for it.

    Bootcamp
  9. 09

    Cost in design reviews

Pricing a design before building it: an option-by-option monthly cost next to the other trade-offs.

    Bootcamp
  10. 10

    Tooling

Native cost tools, exports and calculators, and where a dedicated tool earns its place.

    Workshop, bootcamp
04 · Material

Course material

The published articles, the calculator and the book are the reference material: read them before, and keep them after.
